PROPPA team up with QuadsUK

QuadsUK was set up in 2006, by a group of quad biking enthusiasts who’s passion for the sport encouraged them to promote it nationwide. Since it's initial conception QuadsUK has grown tenfold, becoming the hub of activity it is today, and the UK’s top quad bike related forum with an ever increasing user base.

One of the many great advantages of QuadsUK over other quad related forums is its ability to deliver a unique and comprehensive forum experience to the user, at no cost (no fees or subscriptions), all day, every day. “QuadsUK will always be a free site for everybody to enjoy” said one of the founding members, Allen Hart.

Another of the activities QuadsUK members actively participate in is raising money for charity. It has long been the intention of the founding members to use the site to promote charity work and fundraising, so much so that in 2007 they embarked on a 3000+ mile trip to Madrid (Spain) and back in aid of the Candlelighters charity. “We wanted to enjoy quadding and raise money for good causes at the same time” says another of the founding members, Stephen Potts. Whilst charity is close to the hearts of many QuadsUK members, it is by no means a requirement of membership to actively participate in charitable activity.

Proppa on the move...Onwards and Upwards

We continue to grow and improve at a rapid pace. We have gone through a bit of a company restructure which has seen several internal promotions of Staff into management positions. This has created new managers in the following areas, Sales, Customer Service, Warehouse, Purchasing and Marketing so pretty much them all! We have recruited new staff to work underneath each manager and this will see all business systems improve. This will help us greatly as we are about to move into a 25,000 square feet high bay warehouse which will give us improved offices and warehouse space, plenty more car parking and a much larger secure compound! Look out for pictures of our new place coming soon!

Proppa.com Sponsor AMCA KWS Motocross Masters..

After an introduction form the British Super Moto Championship Director, David Dearden to the organisers of the Wulfsport, KWS and Kawasaki Masters it was agreed that Proppa.com would sponsor each round of the event providing track side bannering and 20ft sail flags to be displayed at each round of the championship. This was a natural step for Proppa.com in continuing the progression of sponsorship within the bike sports arena. We are looking forward to being at the first round in Culham in Oxfordshire this coming weekend and to see many of our sponsored riders taking part at the same event! Please come to see us at the Proppa.com STR Honda Awning as we will be giving away a range of promotional material on Sunday.

Proppa Become New title sponsor for British Supermoto Championship.

Proppa, the UK’s largest van, car & pickup accessory supplier has been unveiled as the 2009 ACU/AMCA British Supermoto Championship title sponsor. The Midlands based company already supports a number of riders in Moto-X, Speedway, Road Racing, Enduro and Quads as well as other Motorsport disciplines. This is the first time however, that they have put their name to a complete championship.

Managing Director and Company founder Adam Weaver is excited about the link.

“We are a new and innovative company, experiencing rapid growth and we are looking to build our brand not only here in the UK but globally as well. We are really excited about our link with the British Supermoto Championship, we support a number of individual riders and teams throughout all motorsport disciplines but we wanted to get involved at Championship level and Supermoto, which I think is one of the most exciting sports anywhere, really fits the bill for us. We work with both the ACU & the AMCA in other areas so one championship combining both governing bodies is really attractive. Our involvement with Ady Smith opened our eyes to the big improvement that is occurring within the sport and we feel that we can bring our dynamic marketing skills to the party and help it to continue to grow. We are all petrol heads in the company and we love the opportunity to help develop motorsport at all levels.”

Championship Director David Dearden said; “We are really pleased to welcome Adam and his team to the British Supermoto scene. We have been really impressed with his enthusiasm and desire to help us. We feel that British Supermoto is starting to turn a corner at long last, with more and more new and younger faces coming into our sport. The tremendous boost we got from events like SportCity last year really helped and with a strong series backed by Michelin and now Proppa.com 2009 looks to be a great year. We like to build enduring partnerships with our supporters and Adam has expressed his desire to work with us in the long term as both parties build their brands.”

Proppa.com Team up with STR Honda.

Proppa.com continues to step up its motorsport support for the 2009 season and signs up with STR Honda.

STR Honda was a brand new race team for 2008. The team had been formed by Steve Turner, who after sustaining a broken tib, fib and ankle in May 2007 whilst riding Motocross at Dean Moor in Cumbria, decided to bring forward his long term ambition of running his own British Championship race team. The main focus was always on developing talented young riders, giving them the opportunity to maximise their potential and compete at the highest national level. After a successful first year it was this philosophy that attracted Proppa.com to Steve Turner and STR Honda. After Extensive talks between Adam Weaver Managing Director of Proppa.com and Steve it was agreed that a partnership would benefit both sides greatly with Proppa.com becoming title sponsors and the team becoming known as Proppa.com STR Honda

Steve Turner who was overjoyed with his latest signing commented “All I can say is that the whole team is excited to have Proppa.com on board. This addition represents a logical step in the team’s progression and certainly helps raise both of our profiles. Proppa.com is a top class supplier of Van and Pickup Accessories who still have not fulfilled there true potential and I am certain we can help them achieve what they are really capable of by lifting the profile of their brand. We are completely committed to delivering tangible benefits to all our sponsors and shall continue to raise the bar in terms of presentation and more importantly results.

Proppa.com will not just be another faceless sponsor, they will be providing 1000's of give away products such as T-shirts, Caps and Beanies to supporters of Proppa.com STR Honda at each event. Their marketing strategy will form an integral part of the promotion and subsequent growth of the team.

EGR award Proppa.com sole distribution rights on EGR Tonneau cover products.
22nd January 2009

EGR have decided to award sole distribution in th UK of there painted tonneau cover products to us. This decision was made as Proppa was already one of the largest re-sellers of the popular tonneau cover product previously trade buying through Formula 4. After Formula 4 went into administration at the end of last year EGR began to supply us directly. This gave them the opportunity to see who in the UK was selling the most EGR tonneaus and supporting the brand correctly. Following discussions at the end of last year we are pleased to annouce that as of now we are the sole distributor of all EGR painted and un-painted tonneau covers and stainless steel roll bars. We will now be able offer all EGR tonneau covers from stock and will be able to supply any spares that may be required.

Carryboy Quality in Question?
15th January 2009

Over the years there have been a number of rumours about paint finishes on Carryboy hardtops. We discovered this when we bought an importer of Carryboy Products Last year. To combat this we have always taken the Carryboy Hardtops and Tonneau covers and had them re-painted by UK insurance approved body shops. Whether this issue has been addressed or not at the manufacturer level, there is one thing you can be sure of and that is all our Carryboy Tops and Tonneaus will get the extra coats of paint before despatch, so the finished quality will always be as it should be. When our current stock of Carryboy tops and Tonneaus has been exhausted we will be concentrating on our own Proppa P1 Hardtops and EGR tonneaus which arrive in the UK ready to send in fantastic paint colours and condition.

Shop with confidence as Proppa is an ISIS & IDIS ACCREDITED RETAILER.
January 11th 2009

Proppa become first in Industry to become IDIS Accredited- Internet Delivery is Safe!
IDIS Delivery Charter- What it means to our customers: IDIS is the official merchant accreditation scheme for delivery standards and best practice. As an online shopper with an IDIS-accredited retailer, you have the right to:

• Clear delivery information before you place your order;
• Convenient and reliable delivery service;
• Notification of any delivery limitations / conditions;
• Charges that are complete and simple to understand;
• Access to information on your order progress / history;
• Delivery within the agreed time frame;

The IDIS Charter establishes a common understanding between the stakeholders -
CONSUMERS, RETAILERS & TRANSPORTERS - of the interconnected nature of the delivery cycle.

IDIS is a sub set and extension of the ISIS Code of Practice for e-Commerce: ISIS Retailer Accreditation Scheme.

Proppa become first in industry to become ISIS Accredited- Internet Shopping is Safe!
January 10th 2009

Why ISIS Accreditation?

Consumers can shop online with confidence wherever they see the ISIS logo because it certifies that the retailer has:
• registered with the ISIS programme and undertaken to trade in a manner that is LEGAL, DECENT, HONEST, TRUTHFUL AND FAIR;
• had its web site and service reviewed and monitored by IMRG*;
• had its Business, VAT and Data Protection registrations checked by IMRG*.

*IRMG (IMRG is the leading industry body for global e-retailing.)

To verify the e-Retailers ISIS accreditation, simply click on the ISIS logo - a new 'ISIS verification' page will open up confirming that specific retailers accreditation. If you see an ISIS logo that doesn't correctly link through to the verification page, please report it to IMRG immediately by completing this enquiry form.

One of the main reasons that consumers cite as the reason for not shopping online, is a lack of awareness of the retailer. Whilst the established online traders and high street retailers have solid brand exposure to comfort the customer, smaller e-Retailer's do not. Use of the ISIS Mark confirms our identity and will indicate to those with whom we are conducting business that we are using ISIS's standards. The ISIS Mark has built up a great reputation over many years and as a result, ISIS-accredited merchants benefit from the reputation for reliability, security and trustworthiness engendered by the ISIS Mark. Customers purchasing goods and services branded under the ISIS Mark can do so with confidence, knowing that they do so from ISIS-accredited merchants.

Interest Rates Cut to 1.5%
08th January 2009

Interest rates were cut by 0.5% today bringing them to a low of 1.5%. Will this be enough to turn things around? With Car dealers doing fantastic prices to move metal such as Nissan offering Pre-registered Nissan Navara Aventura's with a list price way over £22k now for under £15000 +VAT with metallic paint, that has to be the cheapest they could ever be, surely? If we can just get the finance company that is brave enough to pass the savings on and offer low rate finance then surely the automotive sector will receive the boost it requires? This then poses the next question: How long will it take to clear this back log of metal? and, What new models and model improvements will now be shelved because of this? Unfortunately the answer to many of these questions can only ever be one that time can tell!

NISSAN KNOCKS DOWN ITS PRICES..

Just about every manufacturer of new 4x4s and SUVs is suffering from a slump in sales right now - and that's prompted Nissan to come up with some tempting deals, set to run until Sunday, 7th December. The price of the X-Trail Sport Expedition Extreme has been reduced to £21,995, representing a saving of £3130. And at that price, this is one seriously well-equipped machine, coming as standard with climate controlled air conditioning, six airbags, 17-inch alloys, a six-stack CD auto-changer, large panoramic sunroof, DVD sat-nav and rear parking camera. There's an even bigger discount available to Nissan Navara double-cab pick-up fans, though, with the Navara Aventura now available for just £17,795 - representing a reduction of £4085. And if you fancy an Armadillo roll-top load cover for your new Navara, Nissan has even knocked 20 per cent off the price of that, bringing it down to £999.99 including VAT. Or we can supply a Mountain top roll and lock for £893 all inclusive fitted or delivered! Meanwhile, the full-size seven-seater Pathfinder SUV (pictured) has also been hit by the 4x4 sales slump, which explains why Nissan has just lopped £4210 off the price of the Aventura with automatic transmission - temporarily bringing the cost down to £26,995. This is, of course, a limited-run promotion and one that Nissan hopes will gives a boost to sales of its 4x4s and SUVs during the next week. But we reckon canny buyers will be able to do even better than that ... so if you've just bought a new 4x4 and have managed to grab a seriously successful discount, we want to hear about it! Email us at the usual address: sales@proppa.com. There are some impressive deals out there at the moment!

Formula 4 Success....

Automotive engineering has always ranked highly as a steady career choice. But the car is increasingly seen as a harbinger of doom, uniquely responsible for global warming. Might another profession offer better prospects?

The Institution of Mechanical Engineers doesn't agree, which is why the Formula 4 Student competition is now enjoying its 11th successful year, grooming automotive engineering students with "real world" skills. As Pat Symonds, Executive Director of Engineering for the Renault Formula One team and Formula 4 Student ambassador, puts it, "Students come to us with very good academic qualities but we want a little more than that." Their task is to design and build a competitive racing car in just one year for less than £16,000, with its commercial feasibility as well as its performance scrutinised by a panel of eminent judges.

Engineers are by nature optimistic people and Formula 4 Student is designed to exploit that to the full. At the opening of this year's event, chairman John Wood emphasised, "This is not a motor race. It's an engineering competition using the enthusiasm of young people as a driving force." This year was the biggest yet, with 88 university teams from across the globe taking part.

Designing racers may seem at odds with a low-carbon future, although as Symonds points out, "Racing cars are quite efficient." But for the first time this year, a new Formula 4 Student category, "1A", was introduced for low-carbon vehicles using alternative fuels. There were only three entries, all British; a hydrogen-powered machine from the University of Hertfordshire, a hybrid from Oxford Brookes University and a biofuel car from Coventry. Like most of the conventional entries, they use 250cc motorcycle engines as a basis, plus an electric motor in the case of Oxford Brookes.

Hybrids are among the most complex vehicles to master, due to the marriage of an internal combustion engine and electric motor. K.C. Chaing, second year motorsport engineering student and deputy leader of the Oxford Brookes team, explains the team's pragmatic approach: "We used a KTM motocross engine because it's proven, light and reliable, and coupled it to a small brushless electric motor. There's also a 12-volt battery system and 48-volt supercapacitors for normal running." Supercapacitors are storage devices that can absorb an electrical charge and release huge bursts of power much more quickly than a battery. They are ideal for storing energy recovered from the electric motor when the car is slowing, ready to boost acceleration later. Their use in hybrid vehicles is still on the cutting edge (the Toyota Prius doesn't have them) and their inclusion is an illustration of the advanced thinking demonstrated by Formula Student competitors.

Hybrids are also notoriously complex when it comes to electronics, so the team was quick to enrol electronics engineering student Philip Pickles. "The driver has buttons on the dashboard to control the hybrid drive," he explains. "He can boost the power when coming out of corners or when someone is about to overtake." The driver has to use the system strategically, a delicate balance between the need for speed and how much electricity he has stored.

Hertfordshire's car uses a bike engine fuelled by 600g of compressed hydrogen, created in a sustainable process that begins with rotting farm waste. That's enough fuel to complete the 26km (16.16 miles) endurance test, according to team leader Peter Treglohan. Despite a power loss when running a petrol engine on hydrogen, the team is getting 21bhp, compared to 27bhp for the standard engine, by cunningly converting the kickstart to drive an Eaton supercharger.

A hydrogen fuel-cell car has yet to appear in the competition but that should change next year, says Ralph Clague, who is completing a PhD in fuel cells at Imperial College. Clague and his colleague, Mark Cordner, are the brains behind a fuel-cell racer using technology similar to that being developed by the motor industry. But could fuel cells ever power F1 cars?

"In the drive for efficiency I have always seen fuel cells and electric motors as good for flexibility and torque, and I think they are appropriate for motorsport," says a confident Clague. Suppliers under consideration include Canadian fuel cell producer Ballard, and the car will be powered by four electric motors, one for each wheel, producing a supercar-like 590lb ft of torque.

In the finale in July, the Hertfordshire team was victorious in Category 1A, all three producing minimal CO2, and in the main Class 1 the University of Bath finished fourth, one of the highest ever placings for a British university.

The overall winner was from the University of Stuttgart, but all the cars in the paddock were impressive and in dealing with the spectre of CO2 we're in good hands. As Symonds concludes, "European targets of 120g/km of CO2 are extremely difficult and costly to meet. These students are the people who will go into the industry and produce those cars, and they must rise to the challenge."

Proppa.com set VAT rate to 15% on 28th of November.

We have set our VAT rate to 15% today as the orders placed from today or over the weekend will either not be dispatched until Monday the 1st December or they will not be invoiced which means that we can officially charge the lower rate of tax. Prices on our site will be changed where possible however with rising costs and weakening exchange rates we have been fighting price increases for some time now so some prices may appear unchanged but what the VAT rate change has helped prevent is an overall price increase.

Proppa.com Staff Buy Woolworths Pick 'n' Mix before its to late...

Thursday 27th November 2008

Woolworths' banks have been ordered back to the negotiating table to find a way to save the struggling retailer, by a senior government minister in the department run by Lord Mandelson. It is understood a minister from the Department for Business Enterprise and Regulatory Reform (BERR) last night called John Varley, chief executive at Barclays, as well as the Bank of Ireland's Burdale divison and GMAC, to ask why the banks were pushing the 99-year old pic 'n' mix retailer into administration.
The fate of Woolworths hung in the balance before government ministers intervened, and this morning shares in the business were suspended as the company tried to wrap up talks to sell its 840 stores chain to Hilco for £1.

Jungle star Anna picks go-anywhere Hilux for wildlife park patrol!

Wednesday 26th November 2008

Jungle star Anna picks go-anywhere Hilux for wildlife park patrol. Anna Ryder Richardson, a star survivor of last year’s I’m a Celebrity, Get Me Out of Here!, knows just what it takes to tackle tough environments. That’s why the celebrity TV interior designer has chosen a pair of Toyota Hilux to ride the range of her very own safari park.

Hilux is renowned the world over for its go-anywhere character – only last year it became the first car to be driven across the ice to the Magnetic North Pole. Now it is mixing it with the zebra, camels, reindeer and other exotic creatures that roam the zoo that Anna and husband Colin bought last year.

The trials and tribulations the couple faced after they swapped their luxury lifestyle to take over the rundown wildlife park in west Wales have been captured in a new TV special, Chaos at the Zoo, screening next Sunday 30 November at 9:00pm on Channel 4. Their Hilux 4x4 pick-ups, supplied by Toyota, reflect Anna’s flair as a designer, finished in tiger and zebra-stripe paintwork that’s the last word in jungle style.

UK motorists won't use public transport at any cost!

SOURCE: www.totallymotor.co.uk

Monday, 24 Nov 2008

British motorists wouldn't swap their cars for public transport unless it was completely free Research conducted by market information and insight group TNS indicates that British motorists will only consider using public transport if it becomes free.

According to the survey results, a third of British drivers also believe a law should be introduced to ban all vehicles from London except electric ones. TNS believes this demonstrates a growing awareness of the impact petrol and diesel cars are having on urban environments. Nearly 70 per cent say that Chelsea Tractors should also be banned from major cities, with 77 per cent believing this in Scotland. Nevertheless, the large majority of people are adamant they wouldn't consider using public transport unless it was free of charge. Almost three quarters (72 per cent) of UK drivers say that only radical measures from prime minister Gordon Brown could persuade them to ditch the cars and get on the buses.

Andrew Czarnowski, managing director of TNS UK, comments: 'We're seeing quite a gulf emerge between people's aspirations and the reality of taking steps to cut our carbon emissions. 'The green message is clearly hitting home, with a significant proportion of people backing new transport technologies and accepting that things have to change. But despite rising petrol prices, we're still not being pushed onto public transport. 'This feedback is the clearest indication yet that a massive cost incentive is needed to get us off the road and onto the railways.'

James Noble signs for the Proppa.com STR Honda team.

After weeks of speculation Proppa.com STR Honda have confirmed that they have secured the services of Noble for the rest of the season and also for 2010.

Steve Turner, team manager commented “After finding out that James and MVR-D had decided to part company and that he was being courted by a number of top teams within the paddock, I would have been a fool not to throw my hat in the ring. I have always been impressed with James as a rider and am flattered that he has chosen us ahead of the other teams which were vying for his signature. He certainly increases the team’s chances of success both in terms of results and of exposure for our sponsors”

Noble added “It’s unfortunate that I’ve parted company with MVR-D mid-season. All I can do now is get my head down, work as hard as I can and hopefully turn in some good performances.

I am looking forward to dealing with Steve and all the guys at STR and hope that I can get the results for the team and the sponsors as well as for myself.”
